Configuring and Using Call Parking

 Overview

You want a way to place a call on hold on one of your phones and then pick up the on-hold call from another phone without transferring the call. You require guidance on configuring or using the Call Parking feature to answer on-hold calls from a different line.

Solution

Call parking is a special type of call transfer available within Kerio Operator that you can use to answer on-hold calls from another phone without directly transferring. Parked calls wait for the callee on a unique number rather than on a particular extension, allowing the call to be picked up from another phone using this parking extension.

To begin using Call Parking, you must first enable the feature.

Configuring call parking

  1. In the administration interface, go to the PBX Services section.
  2. Double-click Call parking to open the Edit Service dialog box.
  3. Select the Service is enabled option.
  4. In the Service extension field, type the call parking prefix.
    • Note: You can leave the default prefix setting *5.
  5. Set the timeout (40 seconds by default).
    • Note: When the defined timeout expires, the call falls back to the original extension that received the call.
  6. Set the number of digits for parking positions.
    • Note: Uses the same number of digits used for your extensions (your dial plan). Users can park calls on positions that match their extension numbers.
  7. Click OK to save your settings.

Using call parking

  1. Parking a Call
    1. Initiate or answer the call.
    2. Select the call transfer function on your phone.
    3. Dial the call parking number. You can:

      2. Dial the Call parking extension only (for example, *5) to park the call in the first available parking slot. The voice-prompt message tells you the number of the first available parking slot.
    4. Select the call transfer function on your phone and terminate the call.
  2. Unparking a call
    1. Pick up the phone.
    2. Dial the call parking number (for example, *512).
      • Note: If nobody answers the parked call before the timeout expires, the call falls back to the original extension.
